On the Democrats' political objectives in the immigration reform bill…

Amnesty is what they really want. You get amnesty, you get your 60 million permanent underclass Democrat voters. You got all of that. So this story basically says that Rubio was used to silence conservative opposition, because they didn't want to harm him -- and they did it "brilliantly”.

On the Supreme Court ruling that DOMA is unconstitutional…

If Scalia's dissent is right, what it means is that the common, ordinary fisticuff arguments between left and right in this country have now taken over the Supreme Court. And the law and judicial restraint, temperament and all that has evaporated. And the court is no different than a barroom now.

Doug Urbanski is guest-hosting for Rush today… On the new immigration bill…

We learned nothing from the rushing through of the monstrous health care legislation. This is not just Congress failing the American people. The administration is just as much responsible, if not more so -- and they're going to vote on this immigration bill without even reading it!

On Washington’s untrustworthy history on immigration and border control…

The 1986 amnesty bill was called Simpson-Mazzoli. The 1986 law required Congress to secure the border, and it didn't. In 1986, virtually everything being promised and assured now was promised and assured then, and it didn't happen.

On Obama’s fallen political fortunes…

In 2008 Obama went over to Germany and he requested at that time to speak at the Brandenburg Gate, and the Germans, boy, they were under a lot of pressure because back then Obama was The Messiah. He requested to speak at the Brandenburg Gate, and the Germans said no. You're not yet of that stature. So he got as close to the Brandenburg Gate as possible, and 200,000 people showed up. German beer was flowing. And the god echo in Obama's speech, you remember that? I mean, it was just all over the place. You know how many people showed up today? Six thousand. Two hundred thousand in 2008. Six thousand today. That's quite a drop.

On the corporate cronyism of the Obama administration…

GE's not paying any taxes on $5 billion of profit. They found a way to profit from being involved in government, and it's not just GE. More and more corporations are profiting from being involved in government. Being involved in the EPA, being involved at the Department of Agriculture. So the old idea that big money corporations or Wall Street want nothing to do with big government because it's an obstacle, has gone out the window. It's now just the exact opposite.

On the cultural impact of abortion…

You can trace the problems with accepting personal responsibility, no consequences for your actions, you can trace so much right back to abortion. And I'm not talking about the women. I'm talking the overall effect of a society having literally no problem with eliminating 52 million of its citizens. That can't be good.

On the political implications of the NSA surveillance scandal…

So now critics of Obama not only have to worry about the IRS, they gotta worry about the NSA. And the NSA then telling the IRS and the FBI, and then those people downloading information to ProPublica, which is left-wing journalists, and that's how the data on you can end up in profiles in the media, as in the attacks on Romney donors. And all of that is intimidating.

On the solidity of Obama’s political support…

You're not gonna talk people against Obama. Too many factors that stand in the way of that. But you can persuade people that Democrats are a problem. You can persuade people that liberalism isn't good for them. You can persuade people to vote against the Democrat Party. You can persuade people to vote against individual Democrats, or the Democrat Party at large.

On the dangers of big government bureaucracy…

I have an institutional fear of big government. I have an institutional opposition to bureaucracy. By definition, they get bigger; by definition, they want more power, no matter who's running it; by definition, they become less efficient and they get less done, and, by definition, they exist for the sole purpose of existing.

On President Obama’s continued high approval ratings…

So people in increasing numbers don't like what's happening in the country. They don't associate Obama with it at all. He's not tainted by it. His "administration" has problems. His "administration" may be dishonest. His "administration" is very, very troubling. Not him, according to the polling data.

Mark Steyn is guest-hosting for Rush today… On the wave of recent scandals sweeping through Washington D.C…

The issue that ties all these scandals swirling around the government together is basically trust. The issue here is accountable government. Can our public servants do what they want, or are they responsive and accountable to the public they serve?
