On Clint Eastwood’s speech at the Republican convention, and Hollywood’s reaction to it…

The left -- and this is predictable. They're destroying Eastwood, and Hollywood types are destroying Eastwood. "Oh, Clint! What's happened to poor old Clint? Oh, he looks like he's got Alzheimer's. Oh, no. Did you see how old Clint was? He didn't even know where he was." They were dumping all over Eastwood, and you know why? Because they can't hit Romney, and they've gotta hit something. But Romney's speech doesn't have a whole lot hittable in it. Oh, they were sending out their e-mails last night. We're on their mailing lists. Every five or ten minutes, they were sending out e-mails asking for three bucks. The various Democratic fundraising organizations were asking for three bucks. "That Paul Ryan, he lied through his teeth and now Romney? He's lying through his teeth!" But that stuff is pro forma. The target that Eastwood's become... By the way, let me tell you something. Eastwood succeeded in getting under Obama's skin.

On the campaign double-standard that obliges Republican candidates to continually soften their rhetoric against Democrats -- supposedly to avoid scaring away independent voters…

I want to know why these independents don't get turned off when Obama calls Romney a murderer and a felon. Why is it that the independents only get turned off when we're critical? And we're not even being 'critical' about Obama when we simply tell the truth!

On Obama keeping his second-term agenda a secret…

He doesn't dare announce his second-term agenda. That's why he hasn't announced it. He doesn't dare. If this guy told us what his plans are for the second term, it would be sayonara. He didn't announce the first term agenda. Did he tell us any of this? Well, I take it back. He did warn the coal industry. They just didn't listen to him. Not in the campaign. In private meetings that were on videotape with the union guys, he told us what is gonna happen to health care. But he didn't as part of his campaign.

On Obama’s campaign narrative in 2012…

He is not running around telling you how your life is gonna improve. He's not singing the song about the greatness and the resilience of America. He doesn't tell us how he's gonna keep us safe from foreign enemies. None of that. There's not one traditional thing in this guy's campaign. It's all rooted and oriented around you being scared to death of Romney and Ryan. And then, for color, they throw Biden in to go out and tell black people that Romney wants 'em back on slave camps and in chains.

On Democrat party attempts to exploit the Todd Akin controversy…

The Democrats are gonna try to go to town on this Akin thing as much as they can. Their convention is gonna be the pro-abortion convention. They're gonna end up celebrating abortion at their convention. And, folks, let me tell you something. I don't want you to tell anybody. Let them do it. Let them turn over their convention to Planned Parenthood and to NARAL and every other Feminazi out there, you let them do it. Let them go right ahead and turn their convention into pro-abortion. If that's what they think is gonna win the election for them, if they really think this War on Women thing, that they can play it out, let them do it. ‘cause you and I know full well that their view on abortion is not the majority position in this country.

Douglas Urbanski is guest-hosting for Rush today… On Barack Obama’s view of the world…

Barak Obama’s worldview is this: and it is simplistic, and it is wrong, and it has a scary punchline at the end of it. His worldview is this: He sees everything, ev-er-y-thing each and every situation there is, only in the terms of the Oppressed and the Oppressor. And He is the One to come and fix it. He sees himself as the one who brings justice to the Oppressed and who brings down the Oppressor. This is why he wants America to be cut down to a level playing field with the other countries. This is why he allows China to be built up. This is why he went to Cairo and gave that speech.

Douglas Urbanski is guest-hosting for Rush today… On the attitude of the electorate toward Obama…

If you’ve ever known anyone who -- sadly -- got divorced in their life, and as they go through the torments of divorce, the hideous things that are involved, at some point, about 90% of the people going through that kind of a break-up get to the point where they say to their lawyer “You know what? I’m just done with her. Or him. I’m just done. I’m moving -- give her whatever she -- I’m just done.” I think all the negative campaigning, all the Obama speechifying, is falling on ears of a country that’s saying “You know what? Fine. I’m just done. Let’s move on. What’s the alternative?” Obama’s run out of ideas. Even Obama knows that the country is not better off today than you were four years ago. Even he must know that.

Mark Belling is guest-hosting for Rush today… On the hand-wringing of inside-the-beltway Republican election consultants over Mitt Romney’s choice of Paul Ryan for his VP…

I’m not going to say that every consultant is an idiot. They have these jobs for a reason, and some of them have pretty good track records. But what they’re really really good at doing is the same thing over and over again. What they aren’t very good at is actually seeing the future. I believe the Romney choice of Ryan enhances his chances of winning. I believe we are at a stage right now where you have millions of Americans who are more engaged than they have ever been. I believe this is going to work.

On Mitt Romney’s choice of Paul Ryan as his running mate…

I was praying that at some point this campaign becomes one of ideology, one of ideas, one of principles, not just policy analysis, not just Electoral College analysis, but principles and ideas. I think they work. I think they have the ability, properly articulated, to be persuasive. And we have perhaps the best Republican to do that in Paul Ryan. I think the pick signals that the decision was made somewhere that we're going to go head first up against. We're not gonna skirt it with a traditional campaign. We're gonna take it straight to them and we're gonna win or we're gonna lose articulating exactly who we are and exactly what we believe and exactly what our vision for America is.

On the key psychological dynamic that separates Republican leadership from conservative Republican activists…

The Republican Party and the conservative wing of the Republican Party are not unified, because we don't have the same objective. Our objective is to wipe out the liberals! The Republican Party's objective, apparently, isn't. They have a different objective. I don't know what it is. I mean, I know they want to win. But they don't look at the liberals as an enemy to this nation's founding like we do. The liberals, the Democrats and everybody in Obama's camp looks at us as the biggest threat to their way of life that exists. The Republican Party doesn't see the Democrat Party that way. As such, they're not organized to take the fight to them in that regard. We conservatives are. That's why there is a divide. That's why when a Romney spokesman goofs up, we point it out. Because we conservatives think that we've got a Republican Party that doesn't know what it's doing. And we've got to steer them down the right road for their own good. The liberals don't have this problem. They have a singular purpose. Now, they are a varied constituency, and they've got constituency groups that all want different things. But that's not what unifies them. The feminists don't like the environmentalists because they share things in common. The reason the environmentalist wackos and Feminazis are on the same team is because they both have the same objective. Get rid of us and there's no stopping what else they want to do. We don't have that characteristic, that killer instinct. We're missing it.

On the 2012 Presidential election…

We are in the middle of a political terrorism campaign. This is political terrorism, what's going on. Romney is a felon. Romney is a tax cheat. Romney kills women with cancer. Romney founded Bain Capital with money from right-wing death squads in El Salvador. Romney wants to rob from the middle class and give to the rich. Even though he's the father of five, Romney wants to starve children, he wants to foul the water, poison the air, and he's the head of the E. coli club.

On what motivates liberals in government…

The target is always freedom when we're talking about liberals, the target is always freedom. That has to give, as the government gets bigger, that's not even arguable. What reason is there is for government to get bigger if not to police things, including thought? Fix things, police things, administer things, regulate things, all of that, you might not want to call it an assault, but it's all aimed at freedom, pure and simple. And any activity that rewards freedom, any activity that freedom plays a profound role in, particularly something that's successful or good is an enemy.

On President Obama’s spinning of the latest economic numbers…

What we saw today, in Obama's media appearance… is a cold-hearted man. I mean this – cold-hearted. We saw a president who is spinning the worst economic recovery numbers in modern history. We didn't see any compassion. We didn't see any concern. We didn't see any caring. We saw a cold, calculating president spinning what is disastrous news into a way that he can benefit from. There's nothing in this economic news that ought to benefit anybody. There is nobody anywhere in the United States government who is an architect of this who ought to benefit an iota from what they have done and what they are doing. There is nobody in this regime, nobody in this administration who deserves to benefit from this. And yet here is our cold-hearted, calculating young president showing no compassion whatsoever for the people of this country who are really suffering from his policies. The people in this country who are suffering are doing so because of him, because of his policies.

On the importance of today in American history…

This is August 1st, folks. August 1st, 2012… Also happening on August 1st -- the Chic fil-A revolution. Supporting the right to voice your religious beliefs. That’s what this is about. You got two Democrat mayors, who essentially said Christians aren’t desired in our towns. You can strip away, you know Rahm Emanuel’s Chicago Values and all that. All this is about is the fact that the head honcho at Chic fil-A is an open Christian, he’s out of the closet, and Rahm Emanuel says he’s not welcome here. We don’t want people like that… so Christians are told, don’t come to Chicago, don’t come to Boston. Well guess what. This is how they say, “Up Yours.” This is how they say, “In Your Face.” So on August 1st, the Chic fil-A revolution, supporting your right to voice your religious beliefs, and August 1st also the beginning of Obamacare mandating that religious institutions violate their religious beliefs by providing birth control and drugs that facilitate abortion, against their religious beliefs. August 1st. What a profound day in history.
