On the all-consuming nature of liberalism…

To a liberal the fact that he or she is liberal is the most important thing about them, not that they're Jewish, not that they're gay, if they are, not that they're straight, not that they're Presbyterian, not that they're athlete. That liberalism, first and foremost, is an activist way of life. It is an indoctrination way of life. It is way of life not open to debate or argument or discussion or anything. It's just what is, and they exist purely and simply to dominate. And they do not care, obviously, whether they do it honestly or not.

On President Obama’s speech to Planned Parenthood…

Obama didn't do the keynote last night to Planned Parenthood, but he did show up and make a speech, and his comments were the first to Planned Parenthood by a sitting president. And he lauded 'em. He praised their nearly 100 years of service to women. This makes me ill, by the way. That a president of the United States shows up at an abortion factory, essentially, and praises their work.

On things the government did right in events leading up to the Boston Marathon bombing…

The welfare program worked as one would hope because it helped the alleged terrorists get on their feet and feel deep gratitude to American taxpayers. Wait, nope, sorry, didn't do that. They didn't apparently have any appreciation for the welfare payments they received.

The immigration law. I mean, let's be honest, the immigration law successfully helped these alleged jihadists assimilate into the great American family. No. That actually didn't happen. That's not entirely accurate. They became citizens, but that didn't matter. They actually ended up not assimilating.

Well, one thing's for sure. When the older brother traveled abroad and the Russian government repeatedly warned us that he was a dangerous guy, our Homeland Security officials, they ran with that information and... what? It was ignored? Oh. Okay, strike that.

Okay. Well, our schools, universities engaged these two men, inspired them to appreciate the opportunities in this country, inspired them to appreciate the greatness, the uniqueness of our Constitution and free markets. No, that didn't happen, either.

Well, how about this. We can all agree, we can all agree, folks, that strict gun laws and laws against bombs in public places kept the public safe. Ah, that didn't happen, either, sorry. I'm trying to find silver linings. I'm trying to look at successful things the government's done.

On the difference between liberals and conservatives…

Liberals will tell you what's wrong with the country from the founding. Conservatives will say what's wrong with the country because of liberals, while telling you what's great about the country -- if the liberals would move out of the way.

Mark Steyn is guest-hosting for Rush today… On liberals blaming the Boston Marathon bombing on their conservative political opponents…

The wish to immediately turn your political opponents into deranged, nut killers -- into enemies of the state -- is as psychologically unhealthy as any of the balderdash from these Chechen loons with all their Marxist ideology.

On wide-spread media speculation that the Boston Marathon bomber is a fringe right-winger…

Nowhere in any publication, on any website, will you read anybody speculating about the possibility that an extreme left-wing wacko did this. They don't even consider the possibility. Let me throw one out for you. One of President Obama's close friends is Bill Ayers. Bill Ayers got his start blowing things up, such as what happened at the Boston Marathon. Bill Ayers is well known as a bomber. He's well known as a former terrorist, and Bill Ayers teaches. What if one of Bill Ayers' students is out there trying to emulate him?

Doug Urbanski is guest-hosting for Rush today… On what we get for our tax dollars…

We don't really get a lot back for the huge amount of taxes that those who are productive are paying. You have crumbling cities, roads and highways in need of work, pampered public servants, and an education system turning out a product that is brainwashed into leftism.

On President Obama using victims of the Newtown shooting to advance the cause of gun control…

You have these people like the president and other liberals who engage in this emotional tug-of-war. They're proposing legislation that would not have changed the outcome at Newtown. There's nothing in any legislation that would change the outcome of what happened there. But they exploit the victims, they bring 'em forth, they make them into extensions of a political cause.

On Senator Rand Paul’s speech to students at Howard University that the Republican party “has a long way to go" to reach out to American blacks…

What do you mean the Republicans have a long way to go? I know why he said it, but they don't have a long way to go. To me the onus is on black people to get it straight. The onus is on the black population to see the truth. The onus is always on Republicans or always on conservatives to somehow prove that they're not what the Democrats accuse them of being.

On Lady Margaret Thatcher…

Lady Thatcher really was transformative in the true sense of the word. She transformed the UK, during her time, from socialist left to a free market, wealth-creating free society -- and she is hated and reviled today in her own country, by the media, much as conservatives in this country are, but there's no denying what she accomplished, what she achieved, and how she did it.

On the latest economic news…

Folks, I don't know how else to categorize this. We are living in a dying country. I don't know how else to categorize what's happening -- 88,000 new jobs. The unemployment rate, because of a terrible statistic, is down to 7.6%. The number of people in this country who are not working is shameful. Ninety million Americans are no longer in the workforce. Ninety million. People not in the labor force grew by 663,000, and now 90 million. That's the labor force participation rate. This is 1979 levels. The only difference is that we don't have an election around the corner to fix it like we did in 1979. We had that election last November, and we blew it. In addition to payrolls only adding 88,000 jobs, an additional 81,800 went on disability in March. We're now up to 8.8 million Americans on disability. We had nearly as many people go on disability in March as people who found jobs. I think it's official. We have a dying country. There is literally no way that our entitlement programs and our safety net and our absorption of immigrants, legal or otherwise, can be supported this way. This simply cannot be sustained. I don't know how else to describe this.

On the impracticality of Obamacare…

Folks, Obamacare, I don't think it can work. I don't think it can be successfully implemented. Now, that can be disastrous, by the way. The people in charge of it may not ever realize that and may try to make a go out of an absolute disaster. But I don't think so. All of these rules and regulations… I know health care is important to people, but administering this is gonna be impossible, even with 16,000 new IRS agents. People are gonna have to fill out a 61-page form just to qualify for a subsidy at one of these exchanges. Not every state signed up for the exchange, so some states are not even messing with Obamacare. Some states are basically punting Obamacare, as much as they can. And those states, I think, is where the savior in all this is gonna end up being found.

On the profound state of ignorance of climate scientists…

The last ice age was 4,000 years ago. Therefore, my friends, the earth has been warming for the last 4,000 years. The problem is, scientists can't tell us why. Not the last 4,000. They say global warming is just in the last 25 years -- ah, "manmade." Yes. But why has it been warming for 4,000 years? They can't tell us. They have no idea. In fact, they don't know why we have ice ages in the first place. They don't know why it cools. All we know is that a lot more people die from the cold than from global warming.
