If the Democrats are so certain that Clinton will be found innocent in the Senate Trail - then why are they begging for censure? Democrates Honor the man they claim they wish to censure How can the democratic party claim they wish to centure the president and then honor him at a ceremony after he was impeached?
Why does the democratic party hold a press conference where they smile at, hug, applaud, praise, show support for, and openly condon the actions of a man who lyes under oath, disregards the consitutional rights of others, and turns the oval office into a place of ill repute?
Does this show the true nature of the Democratic party?
Is the message: If you favor honoring a man who lyes under oath, vote Democratic; If you favor honoring a man who brings immorality to the Oval Office, vote Democratic?
The "Representatives of the People" at that press conference centainly showed their support for and honor of such a man.
* * * Why Censure is Not Constitutional
The Constitution is very clear that Censure is not Constitutional in cases of impeachment. Article II, Section 4 states "The President, Vice President, and all Civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other High Crimes and Misdemeanors."
Articles of Impeachment alleging high crimes and misdemeanors have been passed by the House. It is the Constitutional responsibility of the Senate to try the case of impeachment. To do otherwise would be to subvert the Constitution, by ignoring a lawful impeachment by the House.
It would also subvert the Constitution for any senator to announce, prior to hearing the facts as an impartial juror in the Senate impeachment trial, that he would vote one way or the other in an impeachment trial. Any Senator who has announced he will not be impartial should be disqualified from participating in the impeachment trial.
If the Senate convicts the President in a case of impeachment, then the only form of punishment that the Constitution allows is removal from Office. Censure is not a lawful option.
Article I, Section 3 also states that "Judgment in cases of impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States".
The natural interpretation for "shall not extend further", consistent with Article II, Section 4, is that the punishment is strictly limited to removal from Office. Upon impeachment, the President is either convicted and removed from Office, or not convicted and remains in Office.
However, some might argue that "shall not extend further" implies the Senate could impose some "lesser" punishment than removal from Office. For example, it has been proposed that the President should pay a multimillion dollar fine, and sign a document accepting censure before the full Congress.
Besides the fact that this is not consistent with Article II, Section 4, there are pragmatic reasons why it is unwise: Such a "lesser" punishment does not guarantee that the convicted Party will not commit further impeachable offenses while remaining in Office.
By specifying removal from Office, the Constitution guarantees that a President who has committed treason, bribery or other high crimes and misdemeanors, will simply not be able to repeat his offenses. The Constitution thereby protects the nation from a President who may gladly sign anything to stay in Office, yet cannot be trusted if he remains in Office not to commit further impeachable offenses. The Constitution thereby protects the nation from such a President who may have wealthy domestic or foreign connections that will pay his fine, at the price of hidden commitments.
The clear intent of the Constitution in specifying removal from Office is to protect the nation from deceptive leaders, who may become deceptive tyrants. That is why Benjamin Franklin said the impeachment process is the Constitutional alternative to assassination. The founders provided a way to safely remove either potential or actual tyrants from Office.
This is not to say that President Clinton is a tyrant, only that if he is convicted of high crimes and misdemeanors then he would meet the Constitutional test for having been a deceptive leader, requiring his removal from Office to protect the national security.
One could imagine a deceptive leader signing a letter of censure, yet having mental reservations about the meaning of every word in the document. One could imagine a deceptive leader or his supporters later trying to overturn a censure resolution by claiming that its penalties were greater, not lesser than permitted by the Constitution, that the monetary penalty and the public humiliation of signing a censure resolution were excessive, that the censure had only been accepted under duress, etc.

I feel that your headline for this story was misleading. Your poll shows 48% in favor of censure. However, there were 47% who favored either immediate resignation or trial. There is a 3% margin of error to your poll, so concievably there is a majority in favor of either resignation or trial. Your bias is showing.

I hope the Senate sticks to the facts and does not play polictics but.....I do not feel confident this will happen. Why hasn't anyone talked (much) about the true definition of MISDEMEANOR in which case CLINTON should definitely be removed...it is about behavior not crime and he is "guilty" of the worst kind of presidential behavior...lying to every citizen of this great United States AND trying to place blame on innocent people.

Recently, I experienced a series of sub-conscience personal emotions that I am compelled to share with you. Living in California, I regrettably must accepted that my State Senators do not think our Presidents misconduct rises to a Constitution matter and has no impact upon the people it protects.
I live in Calaveras County, a very small county in California with a total population of approximately 37,000 people... about as far away from Washington DC as one can get. I attended our Board of Supervisors hearing this morning in order to give testimony on the adoption of our community plan. The Chairman of the Board directed all those wishing to give testimony to rise and be sworn in.
I arose, as I have done so many times before, and innocently began the age-old process. When the Board Clerk recited those words, "I swear the testimony I am about to give will be the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help me God", an involuntary smile came across my face.
The best way to describe what I was feeling, is that feeling one gets when someone is telling you a joke. However, at the same time, a deeper feeling of deception entered my conscience. Instantaneously, I reflected upon this involuntary emotion and became quite saddened. In that split second, the realization of the wide spread impact of our President's failure to tell the truth became ever so clear.
Throughout my life, I have taken pride in the person I am. This morning, my intuitive truthful and honorable innermost being was at a loss. If our President's misbehavior has impacted me, I can only imagine the impact on those who hold a lessor regard for truth and honor. After this sobering personal experience, I can only urge all members of Congress, to PLEASE VOTE TO SUPPORT AND DEFEND THE TRUTH!
Supporting and Defending the TRUTH should rise above partisan politics or ones persons needs. Yesterday's impeachment was about SUPPORTING and DEFENDING one of the most important elements of our inalienable rights, the "TRUTH". Our constitution and the people it protects stands upon the "TRUTH". Every person in this country, on a daily basis, makes countless decisions following words that have been written based upon the "TRUTH". Men and women march into harm's way on a daily basis, whether in foreign or domestic matters, to defend the "TRUTH". Criminal and civil cases under review by courts of law are decided on facts founded on testimony given under oath to tell the "TRUTH".
Our President intentionally lied to save his hide, and in doing so, he has led our Nation in the belief that the "TRUTH" is ... the meaning of is ... or was ... or whatever. He has compromised the People's inalienable rights and their constitutional rights and it is today, as it was yesterday and it will be tomorrow, a BETRAYAL of this age old promise upon which every AMERICAN depends "I swear the testimony I am about to give will be the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help me God". And I submit, by every definition, BETRAYAL is no different than TREASON which warrants impeachment.
All I ask, is that every citizen look at your Nation's past, read the Declaration of Independence, read your Constitution. You don't have to be an attorney, a judge or a elected official, just let the truth guide your conscience and just let the truth defend your democracy and just let the truth defend your freedom.

I am not shocked, disgusted or even outraged anymore. However, I must point out the blatant hypocrisy of the Loony Left:
1. The man is an disposable zero. His only "friends" are the hustlers and baiters who tell Americans tales of the bogeyman that is personal responsibility. He has alienated those in his own party and every special interest he gave an empty promise to. Within his first "100 Days," he shot any serious effort to reform health care by giving the job to his lawyer wife. Liberals and Democrats won't let go of him because they either can't admit to their mistakes or they're immature and refuse to take a reality check. This isn't 6th-grade student council.
2. Clinton had 6 years to "do the business of the country." Six years to send in Navy SEALS, the 101st Airborne, the damn Rockettes to snuff Saddam Hussein. Six years to end Serbian genocide and feed Somalia. What he couldn't get done in six years because he was too busy getting his jollies, he won't accomplish in two.
3. Both Patsys (Ireland and Schroeder) have shown their true colors. Gloria Steinem is laughable. If this is the first president to be elected by women and "Soccer Moms," why doesn't the media present poll numbers on the question of impeachment by gender? They did for his job performance.
4. The Democrats have a Fear of a Gore Planet. They don't want Mr. Happy in the White House, not until 2000. If he takes over for Clinton after Jan. 19, he will utterly destroy the Democrat machine. (I guess that's not really a complaint.)
5. AND THIS REALLY PISSES ME OFF! The American Civil Liberties Union is ever so eager to ban Christmas pageants, *voluntary* prayer in school and religious symbols in government buildings. Yet they are so strangely silent that Clinton is using the Oval Office as a confession booth. The seat of American power has gone from a brothel to a house of atonement. Whatever happened to "seperation of church and state?" Per usual, the ACLU's self-serving agenda has exposed the fascist organization. Justlike always, Clinton's actions are an effort to distract people from his immorality. The man is evil. (I am an atheist.)

Three of the greatest words in the English language are: "We The People". If we were to judge, today, whether William Jefferson Clinton were guilty of the high crimes and misdemeanors that would have him impeached from office, would we vote yea or nay? Does this deed warrant impeachment?
To answer that, perhaps we should examine another set of great words in the English language: "We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal." Our forefathers believed that there should be one set of laws to govern all of the people. If we were to decree a new set of laws for our president, then we would be guilty of tearing at the very foundation of our Government.
As long as there is one individual in this land, having been convicted of the same deed, who has lost their freedom or job, then we must remove William Jefferson Clinton from office.

I heard on some news cast that Hustler's Flynt "has the goods" on several other politicians in Washington with his "$1 million for a scandal" deal. While everything doesn't have to be told all the time, this situation seems like one that needs to be properly "fixed" now. By "fixed" I don't mean to limit speech rights. We know that if Hustler really "has the goods" Flynt would be impossible to be stopped anyway. So why not encourage him to "post" all his information by calling him to testify now is some legal letting?
If the information is true and bad then at least it's out in the open and those people will have to deal with it. We may not like that but if Flynt is encouraged to "keep a lid" on it, he may do so for the time being, but as soon as it fits his purpose they will be "outed" anyway and then we will have another spectacle like Livingston being ready to take over but suddenly being slammed by Flynt. Flynt will in essence always hold an "ace" over, not only the "unlucky" politician, but also over all of us. That's just to much power.

I'm surprised that the articles of impeachment did not refer to the myriad number of scandals that will be the legacy of the Clinton administration. Think back---in addition to Monicagate, there's travel Travelgate, Chinagate, Whitewatergate, Fostergate, Filegate (you can fill in whatever I missed).
What has been the Clinton defense to these scandals? "It was just a bureaucratic snafu", "Mistakes were made", "There is no controlling legal authority", "I don't recall who hired that man (Craig Livingstone)", "That depends on what the meaning of 'is' is", etc. Obviously, someone has been asleep at the wheel and not minding the store.
Harry Truman had a saying, "the buck stops here". Clinton should be held accountable for these lapses and should be impeached and removed from office for maladministration, as well as corruption.

Clearly this entire impeachment is a total farce. Even Senator Hatch says that the Republicans may have to make a deal because the votes aren't there to convict. What happened to the good old days when a jury wasn't supposed to make up its mind until after the trial was argued? Here we have most Democrats and Republicans with their minds made up and the trial hasn't even started. Under these conditions there doesn't seem to be a point of the trial.

After viewing the events in Washington on Saturday, I couldn't help but reflect upon the contrasts between the two camps.
In one we had Bob Livingston standing alone and ramrod straight. He knew, as I think we all did, that the Democrats were planning to use his personal indiscretions to destroy the impetus of the impeachment process. He took the high road and to borrow a phrase from Patrick Buchanan's, RIGHT FROM THE BEGINNING, decides to "offer it up". His self-less sacrifice brought unashamed tears to my eyes and I'm sure many others watching in stunned silence.
Now lets cut to the White House. Only several hours before the Democrats had argued that the presidents behavior was abhorrent, disgraceful and meriting censure. These same people rallied around Clinton who arrogantly stated he would remain at the job until the last hour of the last day.
Later in the evening the media reported that there was a party at the White House. A PARTY !! Can you imagine if instead of voting for impeachment Congress has voted for censure. In the light of these and other obvious reasons, I proudly set up up camp with those men and women, Republican and Democrat who took the high road and "OFFERED IT UP."

My comments: since when is impeachment an illegal process???? Furthermore, it is the president who destroyed himself, not politics!! Greatest presidents???? I don't think so.......
Also, I have an answer to those who were saying that the the impeachment process should have been stopped during the bombing of Iraq. The major difference in our country is the fact that our government will not cease to exist if our president is kicked out of office. We have a powerful system of government which has a chain of command in place. In contrast, if Sadam ceases to rule Iraq, chaos will erupt.
Our senators and representatives could send a powerful message to Sadam if they would stop bickering long enough to mention this fact. The USA will still be around to monitor Iraq when Clinton is gone.

IF CLINTON IS PARDONED, SHE AND OTHERS MUST BE PARDONED FROM LYING UNDER OATH IN ANY SEXUAL MATTER.

Mike McCurry: "Flabbergasted that he could be so reckless"
The former White House press spokesman, Mike McCurry, says he has "enormous doubts" about President Bill Clinton's fitness for office.
Mr McCurry told the BBC's Newsnight programme President Clinton's behaviour was "surely reckless" and "contrary to the way you would expect a rational human being to behave".
Asked whether he thought Mr Clinton was fit to be president, Mr McCurry, who had maintained his silence on presidential issues since his resignation in October, said: "I have enormous doubts because of the recklessness of his behaviour.
"The nature of this particular affair and then the way he did conceal it really does raise some very profound troubling matters.
"I feel the way most Americans and probably his own wife do: Deeply disappointed, and hurt and a bit flabbergasted that he could be so reckless," said Mr McCurry.
Reliance on denial
Asked about the president's sex life, he said people close to Mr Clinton had spent a year relying on what appeared to be a direct denial of scandal.
"I did not believe that there was a tortured definition of sex lurking behind that denial," said Mr McCurry.

Mr. clinton has defended himself against perjury by saying that he read the definition of sex very carefully and concluded that he had not had sex with Ms. Lewinsky because he "never" touched her. He said he read the definition very carefully.
Let's examine that definition: A] person engages in "sexual relations" when the person knowingly engages in or causes -- (1) contact with the genitalia, anus, groin, breast, inner thigh, or buttocks of any person with an intent to arouse or gratify the sexual desire of any person . . . . "Contact" means intentional touching, either directly or through clothing.(29)
The key words here are or causes. . . .contact with. . . .any person. . . .to arouse or gratify. . . .sexual desire. . . .of any person.
Had he never touched her, he did cause her to touch him in the specified areas to gratify somebody's sexual desires. Had he simply caused her to touch herself and watched, he was causing contact of any person (her) with the intent to arouse or gratify the sexual desires of any person and therefore would still have been included in this definition.
As a law professor he must know what it means legally to cause anything. Legally, if he did not know what the word meant he was bound to ask for a clarification.
He has made his excuses, hoping that we will not notice that he left out the words or causes.
He has been impeached, now is the time to convict him.

I am deeply disturbed by the House's vote to impeach Clinton. Whatever happened to DEMOCRACY!!! 68% of the American people did not want Clinton impeached and hard line right-wingers, bent on vengeance, carried it out. They justified this by claiming Clinton's corruption brought this on himself, however, what about Newt Gringrich? Bob Livingston? and Oliver North? It seems to me the Republican party is just as corrupt as what they paint Clinton to be.
I voted for Oliver North back in his race for Senate in '94. Why?? Because politicians aren't perfect and I forgave Oliver North (a CONVICTED CRIMINAL) and I'm deeply disturbed the Republican agenda is to not show mercy on our great leader.
I'm not sure if I'll be able to vote for the Republican party again, certainly not for any of the partisan, anti-democratic Republican Representatives in office now.

If censure is the choice of punishment the Senate chooses, perhaps we can have some input into the specific language. Suggestions:
a.. Admission of lying under oath and
a.. be neutered, or
b.. wear a shock collar around his "neck" that will provide encouragement to keep his mind on the business of the American people, just in case his mind wanders, and
c.. Assign Elaine Bobbett as his personal secretary/intern to assure that he keeps his private life tucked away at all time.

Every time I watch Senator Hatch on Television he seems support censure. His statements concerning censure are troubling. He reminds me of the Senator in Godfather II who supports the mob because he is being blackmailed. I wonder, in the current climate, whether Senator Hatch"s opinions are his own or a result of Clinton having some damaging information on him.

* * * CHAPTER I - Willy Grows Up
Willy Come-lately is the new age hero of the modern liberal world. Slick, soft, and Ahhh...so sensitive. Willy has deep feelings for everything and everyone. You name it and Willy feels for it. I'm sure it's all true because his mother told him so.
His father, Ms. Comelately, was never there for Willy so poor Willy had to make do with just his mother and sisters ... which gave poor Willy a whole different approach to the idea of "Fruit of the Loom" and proper under things for young gentlemen.
But lest you begin to think that Willy was brought up badly, you should see our hero today..."Saviour of the down trodden"..."Champion of the pure of heart"..."Advocate of all that is good"...and!!... a Oxford honorary degree "Environmentalist Meretricious." Willy is SO good that only the most bigoted and callous would fail to agree.
So it was with great castranation that Willy set out from mama to find his mate and make her fortune.
Two weeks and three days later Willy had already finished his first year at Oxford, was voted humanitarian of the year, took first, second and third place at the ping pong tournament, and narrowly missed second alternate homecoming "queen" in the Gay Rights parade. Willy was on fire to become the hero that mama always wanted.
One day while jogging Willy chanced to look over the top of his term paper on "The Gee! Spot" when he spotted the love of his life peeling apples for Gloria Stienhum. It was love at first gripe. Her name was Dominica (Spanky) Rod Ham, the girl of his dreams. She was strong, quick-witted, humorless, and best of all she had a vicious back hand with a ping pong paddle. With this woman behind him ... how could he "pale" ?
Weeks turned into days as Willy came into his stride as a "campuss" political figure. He became known as "Super Willy...Studd Muffin Par Excellence" and was loved by all who are truly caring. Not even the most desperate of the homeless and hungry could find a single fault with Willy because of his many tearful and caring speeches from the sunroof of Spanky's Limo. What A man!
More days went by as Super Willy submitted to his pal Spanky who "buffeted" him into political stardom. Together they lived a life of sanguine domestic bliss.
Spanky was everything that mama had hoped for to finish Willy's education about men...that if you are male ... you are wrong. Luckily for men like Willy however, the feminist movement has carefully and thoroughly analyzed the situation and has arrived at a solution fair to all ... obedience. All the men have to do is be obedient. Obedient to who? Why to THEM of course! "GAD" thought Willy, "Why didn't I think of it? I'm sure mama would approve." Spanky was so happy with Willy's new found sensitivity that she let him have not one but TWO desserts for dinner.
CHAPTER II - Willy's First Election As Governor
Through the years Willy was very devoted to Spanky...except for that nasty little thing that he does now and then on Tuesdays and some times on Thursdays or maybe on Mondays or Fridays but never on Sundays, except on the third week of the month, but at least he never does it on Saturdays, unless of course, he didn't get to do it on Wednesday in which case no one could blame him if he did it on Sunday. Besides it really doesn't matter if he does it, so long as he does a really good job, at his job, when he's not doing it...does it? ( liberal logic talk )
Any way, Willy worked hard at pleasing Spanky day and night, at least most of the time, but not all of the time because after all... ( oh oh, there I go again) until she managed to get him elected to the office of Governor of the State of Al-Ham-Bra.
AL-Ham-Bra is a little known place so backward that when Willy said he really "cares" (but because of Willy's accent) they thought he said he really "car's." Which ment to the locals that Willy was a darn good moonshine driver. So in actual fact Willy was elected by the people for his reputation in exports and foreign policy.
Things went well with Willy at the helm of the Governors mansion, but ... because of that nasty little thing that Willy does once or twice a week ... State job promotions were abundant all through the land. In fact, State job promotion was the second largest industry around and was a close second to the chicken industry that Willy him self got started.
It was the Chicken Industry idea that really brought Willy recognition as a political leader. One day Willy was giving a talk at a VFW convention and one of the men asked Willy, "Governor, what was your greatest love during the Vietnam war?" but before Willy could think of an answer a veteran way in the back yelled "CHICKEN! HE LOVES CHICKEN!" and everyone could tell by Willy's shy blush just how much Willy loved chicken.
The media was ecstatic! Not only did this new image reveal Willy's alternative sexual preferences (that nasty little thing that he likes to do), but it also made a direct link with Willy's true reason for avoiding the draft! They gathered into large discussion groups and asked, "Dare we hope that he will...GULP!...run for President?"
Under the "sanction" of the media, Congress immediately sent Five Billion Dollars to the State of Al-Ham-Bra to be used as an investment in jobs for our countries future, and in no time at all Al-Ham-Bra created thirty two jobs and was exporting over ten pick-up loads of dead chickens a year! It was a true Liberal Government miracle.
The "Chicken Gate Project", using Willy's very own accounting system, was in fact so successful that a small percentage of the government grant (a mere Four Billion Nine Hundred and Ninety Nine Million) was left over, ( and after all the costs mind you ! ) and was donated by the people to Willy's campaign fund for...YOU GUESSED IT!...THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION!
CHAPTER III - Willy Goes to Washington
How could things be better? The media had decided that Willy was to be the next President. Votes didn't matter, polls didn't matter, speeches didn't matter, taxes didn't matter...hell, not even murder, extortion, and drug money laundering could make the slightest dent in the media's decision to appoint Willy President.
All Willy had to do was wave at the cameras on cue and the media did the rest...and oh yes, don't forget about Spanky, they had to find a place for Spanky. "I've got it!" Willy shouted, "She can be President!"
The media flung its self down at his feet in awe at the brilliance of the idea and said, "Think of it..."Spanky The Strong" will lead us to world justice..."Dominica The Dominant" will exact obedience from the doormats...THERE WILL NEVER BE A BAD FEELING AGAIN!!!"..."Well, except for those bad guys that own companies, and maybe those horrible people that use guns in the military, and possibly those selfish people that cut down trees, and perhaps those dirty people that mine holes in the ground and those greedy farmers that hold back our food, but all the rest of us...those that really care ... will never have to feel bad again! No need to hold that silly election! We the Feminazi media know precisely how to run the world. Don't we report the news?" Willy wept in appreciation of the justice of it all.
What Willy needed next was a running mate, but the word mate seemed to have too many connotations for most men when it came to being around Willy. So a search was made far and wide for the exact politically correct person. The qualifications were difficult to meet. The right person had to be the male counterpart of Spanky her self. He had to be utterly ruthless, totally lacking in morals, a bastion of collegiate sue-to-intellectualism, a master of innuendo and perjury, but most importantly he had to be cute...really, really cute. The media can always sell cute. If the media can sell Willy, the media can sell cute.
Spanky got on the phone to the Liberal Lawyers Guild. They sent her a CD disk with fifty thousand names on it, and each fit the bill perfectly. What to do? Spanky was inspired, she called on a feminist girlfriend in Salem Massachusetts. A seance was convened. Her girlfriend boiled rat livers and snake heads, drank the brew, and then went into a new age drunken trance. With a great scream and levitating off floor, she used her fingernails to "etch" the name of the chosen one into the rock fireplace ..."Alfonzo de Gori" the bastard son of a Greek "out house" dealer.
The stage was now set for the great public show. The cast was rehearsed, the actors well studied and the media cameras were poised. All that was left was for the incumbent (Bush) to open his mouth and say something ... anything at all ... and the show would be set into motion.
The election went off with out a hitch. No matter what any one else did the media was always there. Polls were slanted, speeches were taken out of context, information was doctored, and reporters "gushed" over Willy in the papers and TV with blissful promises of utopia. Every one was SO happy, and there wasn't a single bad feeling all across the country... well, except for those bad people that were mentioned earlier.
But, what is it I hear? The taxpayers want WHAT? L-L-L-L LEADERSHIP? Gad! Why don't they leave poor Willy alone? Can't they see how much he car's?

I think I know why they don't want a trial. I was listening to Michael Reagan last night and he said that 2 senators in the Judge Nixon trial said lying in front of the grand jury was considered high crimes and misdemeanor, and thats why he was impeached. also that "not remembering" was not a defense. I also think that if they give Clinton a censure and he doesn't agree because he would have to admit something, I think that will be his down fall because the Dems. are going to be mad about that and so will the public. Thank you for reading this. I would call but I can't get thought, plus I'm to nervous. If you could respond that would be great. Thanks again. And thank you for being such a great teacher. I'm a 32 year old mother and wife and have never been into politics until now and I will be a republican till I die and I'm going to volunteer, where ever they want me, for the 2000 election.

* * * White House Warned About Jury Tampering!
It was encouraging to hear Robert C. Byrd (D-W.Va.)express that he was not going to put up with jury tampering from the White House. The list is so lengthy I can only hope it includes Jesse Jackson, Geraldo, Rivera, Larry Flynt, James Carville, the Salon web site, Hillary's trailer trash celebrity groupies, Clinton's numerous stone throwing admirers, Hollywood fan club, Tony Blair, Larry King, Katie Curic and the usual suspects. The media has stopped reporting news on Bill and Hillary and feel they have a mission to help them through their tough times. It started with NBC and CNN news reporters chuckling triumphantly over "nebulous the polls" high rating for Clinton after impeachment and low rating for the Republican House of Representatives after the impeachment vote came through. Maybe Bill and Hillary have promised them a special place in their unique concept of Heaven for their distortion and undying support through these weary days of dodging factual news accounts from Rush, Matt Drudge and Michael Reagan's web sites and radio reports.

As someone who actually works in the legal system, I would like to point out the truth about perjury. It is, far and away, the most common crime committed in America. It is committed thousands of times every day. Almost half of the cases in U.S. courts involve people telling diametrically opposed versions of the truth, all of which cannot possibly, logically, be true. As judges rule that one side is telling the truth, they are, by extension, finding that the other side is committing perjury. Yet, it is virtually never prosecuted, even in situations were the lie is bald-faced and obvious to the world.
It may be a unhappy state of affairs, but if we were to prosecute every instance of perjury, our courts would be doing practically nothing else. So, those who argue that impeachment is necessary because the President should be treated like other citizens must be looking at some other country's legal system.

* * * Military takeover? Here in the USA?
Watching the news and C-span is scary... Clinton is, in some very abhorrent ways, acting as a dictator. I had a simultaneously frightening and fascinating moment yesterday when listening to his press secretary (Joe Lockhart ?) arrogantly state that President Clinton is the Commander-in Chief and that he is going to do as he damn well pleases with the troops.
I understand the constitutional power he has and even appreciate the generic necessity for him, as president, to have the authority he does. Still, I had a vision of "true dictatorship" (you know, the kind we have heard about in South America for all of our lives) and wondered, if Clinton actually was convicted, and the senate decided to remove him from office, if he would go peacefully or if there would be a military takeover of the government. A coup? Here in the USA???
The man has an ego obsessed with being President. He has suffered, as Mike McCurry stated, as much embarrassment and humiliation as he can. It is as if he has no other identity and he fears that a life without his being president would be a personal death. If that is true then, in his own perception, he, like a convicted man on death row, has nothing to lose.
I am afraid now, seeing his escalation of military activity in Iran. The timing for this macabre, fertile moment is exquisite. Need I list the worldwide events that play so perfectly into this recipe for disaster? .... The World economy, including Japan, in a major, prolonged slump; Russian economic collapse and political volatility; Israel vs Palestine time-bomb; A dozen, lesser skirmishes escalating (or at least being sustained) around the world; The, unprecedented in my experience, chasm of political polarity in our own country; The 2nd impeachment in the 200 year history of this country.... even the distraction of our own pre-occupation with Christmas.
These are very dangerous and fragile times we are in just now. In my opinion, this is an acutely critical moment when the effectiveness of the balance of powers, designed by the fathers of our constitution, shall be put to their most rigorous test.
If I were not an American citizen, and could observe dispassionately from afar, I would have to say that it is a most intriguing and instructional opportunity. But as I AM an American, and as I am directly affected by the decisions, actions and outcomes of these historical and unparalleled events, I am mesmerized. I feel rather like the proverbial deer in the headlights: Paralyzed with fear yet fascinated by the incisive, intimate and transparent view of the unfolding of these dramatic and ponderous episodes.
One thing, at least, is infinitely clear: Like our cultural loss of innocence, birthed by the Viet Nam war in the sixties, our American Society and our cherished government, will never again be the same. We will enter the twenty-first century a significantly different people. Sadly, this change, in the way we govern and perceive ourselves will not be a smooth transition. Of this I am certain.

If Clinton is removed from office, Al Gore would then be president. As the sitting president at the next election, Al Gore would be the Democratic candidate. Wouldn't it be wonderful then to play soundbite after soundbite of democrats declaring that impeaching Bill Clinton will cause the stock market to crash, social security to fail, etc. ad nauseum, during his run for election.

* * * Does the nightmare ever end?
Yesterday I watched Larry Flynt describe President Clinton as "a great President". (A character reference from an expert on Mr. Clinton's lifestyle.).
The Roseanne show then came on and I watched the former governor of Arizona's Democratic Party Convention speech. The tape of her speech ("I am Woman, Hear me Roar") was followed by her characterizing all 20-something women as over-sexed, simply "clueless", and unable to assume any adult responsibility; thereby absolving Mr. Clinton of most of the guilt in the "Monica" matter while destroying whatever progress the Women's Movement has made in the last century. Perhaps she is taking her cue from the National Organization of Women.
On Sunday I watched James Carville spout a litany of threats against the Republican Party and against anyone who supports Conservative issues, be they Republican or Democrat. Had he been speaking about Afro-Americans in the same tone of voice, I would have been looking closely for the swatstika on his forehead (assuming one could look beneath the white hood he undoubtedly wears for such occasions).
Prior to that I heard a reporter describe Congressman Barney Frank as the "moral conscience of the Democratic Party" (the same individual whose roommate used to sell little boys for prostitution out of his basement.). I watched the Judiciary Committee's panel of senior Democrats admit the President is a reprehensible man who did wrong (indeed, every word to describe "wrong-doing" was used except the most accurate, "felon"). In the same breath they suggest that he should be prosecuted two years from now, after finishing out his term. (I suppose if you or I robbed the local 7-11 and got caught, we could ask that the matter be delayed until we reach retirement age in a few years. Try that and see how quickly you end up jail).
I watched the House Democrats lobby for "legal forgiveness" of Mr. Clinton's perjury, because the polls say he is well liked. I suppose they now advocate "law by poll". Had that been the policy during the Depression, we would have had Bonnie and Clyde in the White House (hmm, perhaps we do now..). One wonders how a group of lawmakers could even countenance such an argument (but I suppose they are lawyers first, Congressional representatives second.).
I watched a man, who is described by his own Party as having disgraced the Country, jut out his chin in a defiant "Mussolini" pose and say he could care less after being impeached by the House of Representatives. As he gestured, the bulk of the Democratic Party's representation to the House held a "pep rally" in front of him.
I watched the polls on the dishonorable Mr. Clinton's miscreant behavior, and his "scorched earth" approach to politics, rise to a 70%+ approval rating. At the same time I watched less than perfect, but basically honorable men taking nose dives off the Capitol roof.
Someone wake me up, this has to be a nightmare. God help the Democratic Party, FDR must be spinning in his grave. Hark, do I hear a White Knight riding in? Please say you'll run Senator Bradley As for me, I'm going to register as a Republican. Senator McCain, Governor Bush; go for it. People will wake up someday, let's hope the Millennium brings enlightenment which we as a people seem to lack today.

Today's discussions on your show brought something to mind: Brer Rabbit begged Brer Fox not to throw him into the briar patch. We all know why. Could all this supposed Democratic aversion to an impeachment trial in the Senate be just the same thing? If the Senate votes along party lines, there is no way Clinton can be convicted. By the same token, if the Senate votes for censure instead, a future Democratic-controlled congress can just as easily remove it from the record. This looks more and more like a win-win proposition for the Master of Lies.
Oh well. Personally, I still hope the Senate tries him. Who knows, enough senators just might get an attack of conscience and vote to convict him. That would limit Al Gore to one more term.

We, the American people are some of the dumbest people in the whole world. We sit by and watch this Great American Soap Opera day after day, week after week, month after month. We are not interested in anything else but the soap opera, nothing else is important, or at least it is presented to us that way. The way we get it is the way that the Media sensationalizes it. The important items are briefly touched, not touched at all or barely touched and then never brought up again at all.
Because Clinton's sex life sells news, but not the fact that the is selling us out to the Reds(China.) Nor, the fact that he had an inordinate number of people who come up dead around him, this was going on while he was governor of Arkansas as well. No one was injured, and the office suffered minor fire and smoke damage, Dwyer said. The fire was started with plywood political signs.
Knollenberg, a Republican, voted for all four articles of impeachment Saturday. He said his office received hundreds of calls concerning the impeachment and the attack on Iraq last week. ``Given the gravity of these issues and the contentious nature of the debate surrounding them, some of the individuals calling my office were very passionate in expressing their views,'' Knollenberg said in a statement. ``That said, there were no threats made against me or my staff that would have given me reason to be concerned.''
Dwyer said witnesses provided a possible vehicle description and suspect information.

I don't want to be re-dundant and beat a sick democrat, but let me just say this; As the ever unfolding drama continues the depth of liberal lies, slime, and partisianship knows no boundaries. A fantastic quote I came across fits in with the current efforts by the white house and the hustler guy (what the hell is that dirtbags name?). The quote is by Malcom Muggeridge. It actually has to do with the arguement over atheism and theism but it fits here.

Look at the Logic. We needed to bomb Iraq before Ramadan, which starts on 20th December, only for a few days then cease bombing for almost 30 days. After that are we going to resume bombing. Clinton is making a joke out of us around the world. Get him out and get him out now. His action is purely political and not in the best interest of American's around the world.
Have any of you watched the movie The Devils Own.? Harrison Ford is presented with an option of Lying to cover his partner's action. Harrison is distressed and is sitting in a café and presents the situation to his wife. His wife states "you have always been honorable and this is only one time" Harrison comes back and say's yes if I do it this time it just sets the stage for more and they get bigger as time goes on. The message is, do not give in your moral and ethical values. Bill Clinton has been lying his entire career and has destroyed people in order to keep his lies secret.
Please look at you moral responsibility because the next lie he tells may have a terrible impact on the American people.
As a side comment, I lived as an expatriate in the Middle East and therefore can speak fluently on issues that take place in that geographic area. I am also a Veteran of the Armed Services and would give my life fighting for this great nation but not for a cause such as Iraq.

We have the best intelligence in the world, why not monitor what he does and then send in the planes to bomb the Iraq military efforts back into the stone age. I write to you today in an effort to be one constituent that would like have his voice heard about the very troubling time that our nation is going through. I have followed most of the televised and documented information on the investigation of our President, Bill Clinton, and have personally concluded that the preponderance of the evidence justifies impeaching this president.
I submit to you, we are dealing with an individual who is well educated, intelligent enough to be elected as Governor of Arkansas, and as the President of the United States, yet is unable to determine what Sexual relations means with a person of the opposite sex. Following that logic, it becomes more than obvious that our President lied in a civil deposition to save himself, and over the next nine months has used his presidency to cover up, detract, obfuscate, play with the American people and clearly abuse his power.
Being the Chief Law Enforcement Agent of our Country, President Clinton has changed every states sodomy law by lying to our children and us. Should we reasonably expect that our children could perform Sodomy on each other and justify their actions as nothing to worry about since it is not sexual.
Every one of us has some skeletons in our closets, but President Clinton crossed over a major boundary when he persisted that he did not have sexual relations with that woman. At that point rather than be moral and honorable, he relied on the legalese of his profession and depended on the twisting of words and definitions to save his career.
I take major issue when he made the statement that this was a private matter. This is not a private matter, he is a tenant in the White House. His private life involves his wife, his daughter and his animals. His public life is having sex with a government employee in a public building during public events.
I find it unfathomable that Democratic Representatives on the Judiciary panel do not understand the significance of this breach of trust. Have they no shame or honor themselves to save this man just because he belongs to their party? What messages are we sending to our youth, our President is above the law.
I am saddened by these events and plead with your sensibilities to impeach President Clinton. He is not worthy of the office that he holds. He has tarnished this great nation and the fallout will not be to republicans but to all of us if we do not take action to show our youth that it is unacceptable to behave as he did.
Sodomy in the White House is clearly not an impeachable offense, but adultery, lying and obstructing justice are. What part of immorality do we not understand? Our nation will be far more harmed with this man finishing out his tenure than if removed. We need to show our population that telling the truth is the direction we should all proceed.

While watching CNN this evening, I listened to the "save Bill" cry from all his friends in Hollywood. Given tinsel town's sexual track record, they haven't a leg to stand on.
What should concern us is the air time these people get to spread their private opinions. They use their popularity to speak up on issues that they are no better qualified to speak on than anybody else. It is an abuse of the power on their part as well as the press for pandering to them.
I'm glad we are through raising our child. It seems now our children have a new idol on which to model their growing views of right and wrong, Bill Clinton. And we should all be very worried.
What should really scare us is not the behavior of the president, he will soon be gone one way or another, but the number of people who see nothing wrong with what he has done. Seeing so many people standing behind Clinton reaffirms my contention that we are now reaping the after effects of extreme liberalism in the manor in which we bring up our children. As a teacher for 21 years, I've seen a steady decline in the quality of parenting in this country. I spent many of those years on the speaking circuit hearing the same concern across this country. The "me" generation is coming home to roost.

While I hate to admit it, the Democrats in Congress - in the midst of trying to spin the impeachment debate off track - have come up with a very effective way of significantly reducing Federal spending.
Every Democrat that I've heard outline his/her rationalization of opposing the impeachment of Bill Clinton has cited as overwhelming evidence the results of the latest opinion polls conducted by the infotainment industry. Logically, since the impeachment decision is the most important decision which a Congressperson can make, then every other decision which a Congressperson makes could instead be made by opinion poll.
Therefore, every Democrat in Congress should be replaced by an electronic Virtual Democrat, who's votes in Congress would be the results of a weighted average of the opinion polls. The college football "Bowl Championship Series" system provides an excellent example which could be used to develop this new Virtual Democrat member of Congress <abbreviation : V.D.>. During roll call votes, a computer-generated, precisely ethnically-balanced voice would intone "The V.D. from<district name> votes <aye/nay>."
Clearly, this would save hundreds of millions of dollars in Congressional operations expenses, since the new V.D. would require no huge congressional staff, offices, or travel expenses, or security staff. Additionally, it would produce revenue for the Federal Government, as the rights to advertise that an individual "news" organization's polls are part of the V.D. formula could be auctioned off by the Treasury Department. The economy would be further stimulated by the hundreds of millions of dollars in campaign contributions and lobbying campaigns from those companies which previously had asked their Democratic Congressperson for protection from competition which would now be reinvested in increasing the company's competitiveness (or paid out to the stockholders whose money it was in the first place).
The new Virtual Democratic Party could tout that any voter who wants an elected representative who "feels their pain" most sensitively should clearly join the Democratic "party". Those of us who are insensitive and - shudder - want an elected representative who can make decisions based on their publicly-stated political philosophy and on their own moral, legal, and ethical judgement would shamefully vote Republican.
P.S. Here's an idea for your web site : put a counter on your web-site which records the number of times that the late President Thomas Jefferson turns over in his grave when any broadcaster says the words "William Jefferson Clinton". Between being impeached for flagrantly violating the judiciary system and, prior to that, being the standard-bearer for the reversal of the founding-fathers' vision of states' rights, slick Willy has probably spun Jefferson's corpse all the way to China. Which is, come to think of it, appropriate albeit tragic.

I watched with interest Saturdays impeachment debate and vote. I also watched with interest the little demonstration by the Demoncrats on the capitol steps. The most interesting thing about this demonstration was the coverage by the media. I surfed through NBC, CBS, CNN, FOX, and some others and I was looking for one station that would show the people out front. None did, not one single station would show the TV audience who showed up for the Demoncrats demonstration.
This made me begin to think. Either no-one showed up or the ones that did show up were more pro impeachment and the media did not want to show any support for this position. You can bet your bottom dollar if there had been a crowd of Clinton supporters they would have shown it. Its just another example of the liberal press bias. I also wonder how many others out there caught this.

How can the constitution survive unless the House votes to impeach this President?
The silver-tongued "white knight" has often pointed out that he "did not lie," using technicalities to support his claims. We conservatives, on the other hand, have to often become emotional and have neglected to focus on the simple issues. The issue (which you have pointed out) is not sex and politics, but law and order.
In order to provide focus, however, we must clarify the issues. This can start by providing a lesson on the definitions of: perjury, deception, misleads and other words using such a simple tool as Webster's dictionary. Mislead is defined, in part, as a lie. I defer to your team of fearless researchers to clarify the renderings of these words.
This will help those liberals who are willing to hear the truth at least understand the issue. It is not about the spelling of a word or the usage thereof; it is about the intent.
For the representatives whom the people of the United States have elected not to vote to impeach the President is to emphasize the injustices that abound in our society. Is not anything less a slap in the face of the republic for which we stand? I say, yea.
I have the responsibility of bringing the concepts of justice back into focus for the 140,000+ children of inmates (in the state of Texas alone) who about 600% more likely to go to prison than their peers. An astonishing percentage of their parents are in the federal and state systems for crimes related to perjury or lying under oath to grand juries. Many of these children have a wayward sense of loyalty to criminal parents and lack any confidence in established authority (e.g., law enforcement, teachers, church, family, government, and the like).
No wonder, the O.J. Simpson's get away with it, even the President may. However, the message that is sent, by crooked politicians, is that not all Americans are equal. Indeed, under this ideology, most of the working class citizens belong to an entirely different group. According to the conduct of liberal and crooked politicians, these must endure the criminal justice system, while the politicians and their concerns go free. We need strong role models. People like Limbaugh (okay, stroking your ego), Colson, Tom "the Hammer" DeLay, George Bush (pick either one and you would be right), Colon Powell, Ron Kirk, and the like.
What message does this send to our children? You are starting out with marks against you. There's no reason to try to succeed, you will probably be messed over anyway when someone comes along with more money and more influence than yourself.
Gone on too long. You have the gist of my gripe.

And second, if as the democrats say, Ken Starr's case is so weak it could never hold up in court, then why is Clinton afraid that anything he says could force him to go to court after he is out of office? There have been several well-intentioned proposals for censure, but the Constitution states that if the President has committed a high crime and misdemeanor, then he is to be impeached by the House, tried by the Senate, and removed from Office. Articles of Impeachment alleging high crimes and misdemeanors have been passed by the House Judiciary Committee. It is the Constitutional responsibility of the House to either approve or reject these Articles. If an Article of Impeachment is approved by the House, it is the Constitutional responsibility of the Senate to try the case of impeachment. If the Senate convicts the President in a case of impeachment, then the only form of punishment that the Constitution specifies is removal from Office, and prohibition from holding any future Office. The Constitution limits punishment to this by stating that "Judgment in cases of impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States".
One might argue that "shall not extend further" implies the Senate could impose some "lesser" punishment than removal from Office. For example, it has been proposed that the President should pay a multimillion dollar fine, and sign a document accepting censure before the full Congress.
The problem is that such a "lesser" punishment does not guarantee that the convicted Party will not commit further impeachable offenses while remaining in Office. By specifying removal from Office, the Constitution guarantees that a President who has committed treason, bribery or other high crimes and misdemeanors, will simply not be able to repeat his offenses. The Constitution thereby protects the nation from a President who may have wealthy domestic or foreign connections that will pay his fine, perhaps with hidden commitments. The Constitution thereby protects the nation from a President who may gladly sign anything to stay in Office, yet cannot be trusted if he remains in Office not to commit further impeachable offenses.
The clear intent of the Constitution in specifying removal from Office is to protect the nation from deceptive leaders, who may become deceptive tyrants. That is why Benjamin Franklin said the impeachment process is the Constitutional alternative to assassination. The founders provided a way to safely remove either actual or potential tyrants from Office.
This is not to say that President Clinton is a tyrant, only that if he is convicted of high crimes and misdemeanors then he would meet the Constitutional test for having been a deceptive leader, requiring his removal from Office to protect the national security. One could imagine President Clinton signing a letter of censure, but having mental reservations about the meaning of every word in the document.
